Primary Health Care Dietitian

The aim of this service is:

To provide a comprehensive and culturally appropriate clinical dietetic service to meet the needs of patients enrolled with Manaia Health PHO.

The dietitians work with patients referred from General Practice and Maori health providers (Ki a Ora Ngati Wai and Ngati Hine Health Trust).

Involvement in health promotion activities and community development initiatives are also important components of the role. The Following Services are available:

Diabetes Self Management Groups

This is the gold standard of diabetes education and is strongly encouraged for all clients with diabetes able to participate in a group setting.  This course is facilatated by a diabetes nurse specialist and dietitian and gives is broad overview of diabetes and nutrition.  Information brochures and dates are available from Glenys - 09 438 1015 or View the course brochure here.

Supermarket Tours (client self referral)

For people wanting information on how to choose hrealthy food for diabetes, heart healthy eating and general healthy eating.  Dates for the supermarket tours are regularly circulated.  After hours tours can be arranged on an as needs basis for people unable to attend during working hours.  Please contact Glenys for bookings (438 1015). 

1:1 Client Appointments (indicate preference on referral form)

The client and their support person discuss their issue and problem solve ways to change their behaviour.  The client often sets goals and returns for review as appropriate for up to 6 months.
