Jocelyn Apeldoorn

Job Title:  RN – Vaccinator, Outreach Immunisation Service

Qualifications:   Registered Comprehensive Nurse

                           Bachelor of Nursing

Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Healthcare Nursing (Tamariki Ora Strand)

Background:       My background was in ecology and conservation prior to completing a Bachelor of Nursing at Northland Polytech six years ago. Since then I have worked in hospital level aged-care for one year. I was also a relief nurse for a community nurse-led medical centre and spent time in a rural hospital setting for another year before taking up a primary health position with an iwi provider in Dargaville for 3 years. This role was principally as a mobile Tamariki Ora nurse and vaccinator, but also involved GP outreach clinics and mobile Whanau Ora nursing. Currently, along with my present role at Manaia, I also work on the Nursing Bureau - Ward 15 (rehabilitation) and Ward 2 (paediatric) – and, also as a relief practice nurse.

Present Role:    I am part of an outreach team that completes home-based and community-based vaccinations for children that are hard to reach or have difficulty accessing GP services for various reasons.
