Mark Trudinger

Health Promotion Coordinator

Bachelor of Business (Communication); Diploma of Management

My initial professional background was as a communications consultant for not-for-profit organisations and government departments, with a focus on young people, health, environment, literacy, housing, and access to legal services. My clients ranged from women’s health centres and youth services through to large NGOs such as Greenpeace and Amnesty International, as well as government departments of health, education, and ethic affairs.

From there, I worked in community development, founding and running a range of community-based organisations including working with young men on issues of anger and violence, and setting up a community media centre. Most recently, I managed a community organisation in a small rural town, which ran a community centre, youth centre, and community gym. The gym was part of a broader three-year, ‘in-place’ health promotion project which worked in close partnership with local residents, and with respect for local culture.

Current role
My role as Health Promotion Coordinator includes coordinating Manaia PHO’s smoking cessation project, working on the Kai Ora and Tamariki Ora community funding, and providing general health promotion advice, support, and work for the health promotion team.
