Self-management for people with long-term health conditions - Whakamana Hauora

Whakamana Hauora is a self-management course developed by Stanford University.

This FREE course is open to anyone with any long-term health condition, as well as whanau and caregivers of people with a long-term condition. Courses are held around Whangarei and in Dargaville and run for one 2.5 hour session each week for 6 weeks. Help with transport can be provided.

At the course, two leaders will guide the group through the topics. Participants do some listening, some learning, and some talking (if they want to).

Topics covered include:

  • managing stress
  • sleeping well
  • eating well
  • being active
  • managing medication
  • communicating with health professionals
  • problem-solving
  • decision making
  • action planning, and more.

Course dates for 2017:

  • Tuesday 8 August - 12 September, 10am to 12.30pm at Manaia PHO
  • Monday 2 October - 13 November (course not held on Labour Day, 23 October), 1pm to 3.30pm at Manaia PHO
